about

Montreal's Brother of Moses's debut full-length album LIGHTS draws from a live duo performance from members Aaron Leaney and Aaron Lumley.

Recorded during the 147th birthday celebration of Canada's independence and traditionally Quebec's official moving day. These four pieces cut deeply through the dense atmosphere that was steaming up Le Cagibi that summer night. You can hear the creaking wooden stage as Leaney lays down shimmering bells and shakers to Lumley's arco playing. Lateral saxophone lines weave through gut stringed bass melodies, matched by a subtle sensitivity; the music is relentless from each of these two musicians.

The duo can be heard exploring the timbres of string, reed and electronics; shaping a vibrant energy that drives this inspired night of music.

Recorded live on July 1st, 2014 at 5490 Boul Saint-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Since relocating to Montreal they have been actively performing with Leaney wailing alto, tenor saxophones and live electronics intertwining with Lumley's power house extended upright bass technique. ... more
